Episode Summary
The body of the host of a popular reality TV show is found partially decomposed in an outhouse, and Booth and Brennan must find out who the killer is. Meanwhile, Booth learns that Brennan is juggling two relationships.

Bones Opening Crime Scene Description
A trucker stops by the side of the road to use an outhouse. As he enters he is lighting a cigarette and the outhouse explodes lighting his butt on fire. Booth and Bones are called to the scene and the find a body dumped head first into the outhouse sump. Once the body and the contents of the outhouse are brought back to the lab the squints discover that the body was shot at close range 72 hours ago and there was a picture stuffed down his throat.

Victim's name: Bill O'Rourke Suspect: Jim Dodd
Pete Steckel Murderer: Pete Steckel
Methods used to solve: determined who the girl was in the picture and then who would be angry about the picture.
Motive: Bill stole his girlfriend and got him fired.
Notes: Holly was Pete's ex-girlfriend
Cause of death: Shot in the head Relationship to victim: busted by Bill on his show for cheating on his wife.
Time/location of death: Outhouse on the side of the road, 72 hours prior

  • In their session w/ Sweets, Booth feels bad after both of Bones' boyfriends break up with her. He tells her, "If Mark and Jason don't know how luck they are. They don't deserve you in the first place."
  • Bones then says, "All of my relationships are temporary anyways.", and Booth quickly corrects her, saying, "You're wrong Bones. There's someone out there for everyone. Someone you are meant to spend the rest of your life with." They then stare deeply at each other for a few moments, and we see a big smile comes across Sweets' face.

  • Booth to Bones: I'm just looking out for you, all right? You don't have the, uh, best taste in men.
