Episode Summary
When Brennan, Hodgins, and author Thomas Vega are summoned by a Federal Judge along with the United States Attorney regarding the ongoing investigation of the Grave Digger, they learn that evidence from the case has recently gone missing. With Brennan and Hodgins having been victims of the Grave Digger and Thomas Vegas currently writing a book about it, they become prime suspects in the missing evidence case. However, when Brennan and the team receive a phone call from the Grave Digger informing them that Booth has been buried alive with only 24 hours worth of oxygen, the Grave Digger threatens to leave him to die unless Brennan brings the missing evidence. The team immediately goes to Booth’s apartment to assess the crime scene, knowing from Sweets’ psychological assessment of the Grave Digger that they cannot tell the authorities about the situation or else the Grave Digger will retaliate against Booth. As Booth struggles to free himself from confinement, the team joins forces to locate him with precious time ticking away.

Victim's name:Booth, Thomas Vega
 Suspect: Dr. Temperance Brennan, and Thomas Vega
Heather Taffet
 		Murderer: AUSA Heather Taffet
Methods used to solve: Victim's remains (Thomas Vega), and the contents of Heather's storage shed in conjunction with her file.
Motive: The grave digger would ransom her victims. In this case she was after evidence that had been stolen from the case
Notes:
Cause of death: Taser held to victim's heart (Vega)
 Relationship to victim: Dr. Brennan - partner, Thomas Vega: wrote book on grave digger.
Time/location of death: Night of Brennan's award ceremony. Thomas Vega was killed in his car in the parking garage the next morning.
Finds/evidence: The piece of toll road pass bumper sticker. The boots in Taffet's locker show Navy paint chips, and her file shows she worked with the aquarium.
 Suspect: Dr. Jack Hodgins
What do the bones say? Vega's arms show defensive fractures. Relationship to victim: Jeffersonian Squint

  • This episode is a continuation from the Aliens in a Spaceship episode from season 2.

  • Booth reveals in this episode why he named his son Parker. Back when he was a sniper, Booth was the sergeant for a man named Teddy Parker. He named his son after Teddy because Teddy died under Booth's watch, leaving Booth feeling responsible for his death.
  • Bones talks to the ghost of Cpl Parker, but she doesn't know he is a ghost.

  • The contraption Booth was "stuffed" in was very similar in appearance to the yellow submarine from the 1968 Beatles' movie "Yellow Submarine," which was also the name of a song and album by the band, the latter of which was released in conjunction with the film.
  • Bones give Booth a replacement for his Cocky belt buckle that he started wearing in season 2's "The Bonesless Bride in the River" after he uses his original to detonate the bomb. This belt buckle is also referred to in season 5's "The Plain in the Prodigy".
