He was brought in to assess Booth and Bones' professional capacity as partners, and evaluate whether or not they made a good team or should be split up (what resulted was a sort of "couples therapy.") Booth and Bones began utilizing his psychological and behavioral analysis skills to help them on cases. He now makes regular (unannounced) appearances at the Jeffersonian, whether invited or not. He seems to have everyone's best interests at heart, and tries to offer genuine help and advice -- with the glaring exception of his deceit of Doctor Brennan and Agent Booth in Season 3's Finale (when he deliberately failed to inform Doctor Brennan that Booth was alive, after Booth had "died" in Season 3's penultimate episode "The Wannabe in The Weeds," as a sort of "experiment" on the two partners). All members of the Jeffersonian team now consult him -- usually informally -- for advice on a myriad of topics, ranging from work problems to relationship advice. Sweets faces a lot of skepticism from the rest of the team at first because of his age. He supposedly graduated with a doctorate from the Columbia University when he was twenty-two, implying that he started his undergraduate degree when he was fourteen or fifteen and this seems suspicious to the members of the team. It is possible that Lance is from Canada or a state close to the border because he attended the University of Toronto for his undergraduate degree. It was revealed in "Mayham on the Cross," that Lance was abused as a child. It was also revealed that he was adopted at age 6 by a loving mother and father whom died within weeks of each other, shortly before be began his tenure with Bones and Booth. | | Bones Character Connections | | Name: Dr. Temperance Brennan
