November, 2009 | Fan Friday Edition #5!
November 20, 2009
I know, I know, it seems like all the fanvideos out there are Booth/Brennan-ship videos. I promise you, someday, I will find a video that is not Booth/Brennan. Today is not that day, however, as I found this amazing vid from YouTube user Ferryboat Productions. From choice of song to choice of clips to editing, this is really one of the most well-put together vids I've seen and I think you'll agree. Enjoy! (PS: It's totally worth watching in HD.)

| Producers Choose Favorite Angela's Piglet NamesNovember 18, 2009
In case you missed the post on the Fox forums, Bones Producers posted Angela's favorite piglet names. Review the choices below...
http://forums.fox.com/foxbones/messages?msg=21010.1
From the Bones Producers - THANK YOU for all your submissions! Angela had a tough time deciding on a name from the thousands of entries but, rest assured, they were all taken into consideration. Before we reveal our favorites, here are the most popular suggestions: JASPER: Many remembered that if Brennan ever owned pig, she would name him JASPER. However, Brennan decided to reserve the name for her personal use and Angela had to choose another name. Thank goodness she had help! ARTIST: A number of the suggestions centered on famous artists, such as Michelangelo and Van Gogh, or artistic terms, such as DOODLE, Paintbrush and Chiaroscuro. Angela did want to incorporate her love of art into the piglet’s name. See below to find out how! WILBUR or BABE: Who could forget WILBUR, the lovable pig from Charlotte’s Web? Or BABE, from the movie of the same name? Though Angela liked these names, she wanted her pig to forge its own path with a name no pig had had before. BACON or PORKCHOP: Angela did think naming a pig Bacon or PORCKCHOP would be amusing, but she didn’t want to remind the little piglet of the disaster it nearly missed! HODGINS: Many thought a tribute to Hodgins was fitting. Whether it was naming the pig HODGE PODGE or JACK, shouldn’t Angela give a nod to her former flame? Angela wasn’t sure if naming a pig after Hodgins was a nice gesture or a mean one… BRENNAN: A number of submissions centered on Brennan. After all, she donated the funds to rescue the nameless pig. Therefore, Angela could call the pig TEMPE, TEMPERANCE or SWEETIE. However, Brennan wasn’t interested in sharing her name. HAMLET: Last but not least, HAMLET was a popular choice. The name had it all: the word HAM combined with PIGLET. Angela wanted to acknowledge how appropriate and clever it was but she just couldn’t resist the following names… EINSWINESubmitted by Dawn Linnell HOGGINSSubmitted by Louise Svärm PABLO PIGCASSOSubmitted by April Payne SUBMITTED BY: SillyLins

Speaking of winning Bones DVDs, I found an excellent review of the Season 4 DVD.
Excerpt -
"It is one of the few series that actually keeps me entertained episode to episode without ever getting stale. You’ll see how obvious that is too as season four of Bones seems like only the beginning of a long tenure on the air."
Included in the review are details about the discs, the audio & video, special features, and the reviewer's thoughts about the season.

We're taking a slight detour this week on Fan Friday to feature some goofy, fun, entertaining and funny people who you might just recognize. You may think the life of an actor is all lights, camera, action, but in between shots, there's a lot of hurry up and wait. The Bones cast has to occupy themselves somehow and in this photo-feature from Entertainment Weekly, we see what they get up to when the cameras aren't rolling. Check out the full article for 14 more pictures (taken by the cast) from behind the scenes of the December 3 and 10th episodes.
And an additional special treat direct from the MySpace page of John Francis Daley (Lance Sweets):

Booth, still suffering some lingering effects from his brain surgery, has to get re-certified for FBI marksmanship, but is not the accurate shot he was before going under the knife. Meanwhile, the team at the Jeffersonian investigates the remains of a little person discovered in a sinkhole. The victim, Bryce DaFonte, also known as "The Iron Leprechaun," competed in a popular wrestling league, but the popularity of the franchise left him with many enemies, including bitter competitors and scorned lovers, any of whom could have caused his downfall in the "Dwarf in the Dirt" episode of BONES!

| Zooey Deschanel Joins Sister Emily on BonesNovember 10, 2009
Zooey Deschanel will join her big sister Emily on the Dec. 10 episode of the FOX series. The episode will mark the first time Emily and Zooey have appeared together on screen.
Emily Deschanel and Bones creator Hart Hanson said at the start of the season that they wanted to have Zooey on the show but weren’t sure if her schedule would allow it. That has obviously worked out now. In the episode, which has the very Bones-ian title The Goop on the Girl, Zooey will play Margaret Whitesell, a distant relative of her sister’s character, Temperence Brennan. Brennan’s dad (a returning Ryan O’Neal) comes into contact with Margaret and asks her to spend Christmas with him and Brennan. The Goop part of the title comes from the case of the week, which has Brennan and Booth (David Boreanaz) investigating the death of a man in a Santa Claus suit who was blown up in a bank robbery gone wrong. | FOX Scavenger HuntNovember 9, 2009 Fox is holding a scavenger hunt that will take place across all of Fox's network shows. The event will be a celebration of The Simpsons‘ 20th year as a series and will include Bones.
There will be clues alluding to The Simpsons throughout each of the network shows. Simpsons writer and producer Al Jean warns that the clues may be subtle, and that you'll have to pay close attention to the details. D'oh!
Watch this video clip that tells you what to look for. It features actors from Fox shows including Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz. The hunt runs November 9-14, and the winner will be chosen randomly. The prize along with how to submit your entry has yet to be announced.

| Thanks, Yankees: ALL NEW Bones TONIGHT: "The Tough Man in the Tender Chicken"
November 5, 2009
I'm not much of a baseball fan, myself (I'm a college football gal; Go Gators!), but I was sure rooting for the Yankees last night - just so that we could get a new episode of Bones tonight.
When the mutilated remains of a local chicken farmer set to inherit a chicken factory farm aggressively protested for inhumane living conditions and animal cruelty are discovered on the bank of a nearby river, the Jeffersonian team is brought in on the case. The team must question the farmer's many enemies, including extremist animal-rights activists and bitter neighbors, in order to solve the case. Meanwhile, Angela is bothered by the farm's practices and launches her own animal-rights campaign in the all-new "The Tough Man in the Tender Chicken" episode of BONES airing Thursday, Nov. 5 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
Also, don't forget that we get a bonus Bones repeat this week at a special date and time! "The Science in the Physicist" will air Friday at 9/8c!

What do you think of his performance and the movie?
| What's a Bones Fan to Do During the World Series?November 3, 2009
Last Thursday we didn't get a new Bones because of Game 2 of the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies. If the Phillies win tonight, we won't have another new Bones on Thursday because they will play Game 7. What's a Bones fan to do? I personally recommend watching clips and episodes of the show on Fox and Hulu.

| Creator Hart Hanson Knows the Secret Behind Bones' Success
November 2, 2009
Bones creator Hart Hanson thinks he knows why Bones is climbing in ratings. In an interview with Alex Strachan of Canada.com, Hanson talks about how Bones wasn't on most people's radar for a few years, and now it is almost a Top 30 show.
"They tease each other all the time," Hanson explained about Boreanaz and Deschanel. "And that proves this thing we do, this thing we have, works." Hanson's main theory is the real-life rapport, combined with the actors' ability to seem like real people, is what makes viewers come back for more. Chemistry is one thing you can't fake, Hanson says
David Boreanaz concurs. "If I'm having a bad day or she's having a bad day, we can talk about it and get through it and use it in our work," Boreanaz explained. "It works for us. It motivates the scene and pushes the scene along, and it also helps us find out something new about each other."
What does Hanson think about the "maybe it was a dream, maybe it really happened" romance between Booth and Brennan in the season four finale? Especially since it had fans arguing over whether it really happened or not?
"You want people to react to your show," Hanson said. "This sounds awful but it's true: When the audience fights amongst itself, I feel we've done something right. If everybody loved everything all the time, they would be bored inside one season."

SUBMITTED BY: lulamae ADD A COMMENT | Amazing Article on Eric Millegan's Struggle with Bipolar Disorder
October 29, 2009
Recently, Bones actor Eric Millegan (Zack Addy) posted made the decision to go public with his struggles with bipolar disorder. Jamie Frevele of The Huffington Post has compiled a nice story using Millegan's own words along with recollections from Hart Hansen, creator and executive-producer of Bones. What's especially touching about the story is how much you can see that Hansen and the Bones cast are like a family and take care of each other when they need taking care of. A really great quote from him that stood out to me: "Eric went between great happiness and great sadness. Despair and euphoria. And he is rapid-cycling, so that would happen several times a day. It would kill a regular human being. And I could see it happening in moments. And Eric has never been good at not trusting his gut. Things are so much better now, and he's just so strong now. He's just such a strong human being for having gone through hell. Hell he went through. I mean, I get breathless thinking back on it."
You can watch Eric's YouTube videos on bipolar disorder at his YouTube Channel. Even though organizations like NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) are working hard to eliminate the stigma of illnesses such as depression and bipolar disorder, it takes a huge amount of courage to come forward and share his story.

| Emily Deschanel To Hold Q&A For CharityOctober 27th, 2009
Emily Deschanel is presenting a special screening of Bones in Los Angeles tonight followed by a Q&A. The event is hosted by the Screen Actors Guild and will highlight Deschanel's career. Not only is Deschanel an accomplished actor but she's also an animal rights activist. She's involved in the nonprofit Farm Sanctuary and hopes to end cruelty to farm animals. She believes in rescue, education, and advocacy for animal rights. She is also involved with The Humane Society and Women for Women International. Emily received her B.F.A. in Theater from Boston University. Any Bones fans a member of the audience at tonight's show? If yes, be sure to leave and comment and let us know how the Q&A went. BONES 100th Episode!
October 26, 2009
Can I just say YAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!
For the 100th episode of Bones, we get to see Bones and Booth before we knew them.
The series is rewinding to Bones and Booth's first assignment. No, not the one that was in the pilot. The one that was before the pilot. The one that created their chemistry and bickering that keeps us coming back week after week!
According to an EW interview that executive producer, Stephen Nathan,“We’ll be there for the first time those two personalities clashed. Events will conspire to make them come out of the case hating each other and vowing that they will never work together again.”
Will we get to see other characters early on? Oh yes, oh yes!
“We’ll also see the introduction of Angela and the genesis of her friendship with Brennan,” Nathan adds. “And we’ll try and work in a Smurf reference, of course. They certainly have been absent from season 5 so far.” SUBMITTED BY: EGUY | Fan Friday, Edition #1!

There may not be a new episode of Bones tonight, but there is some exciting new casting news to tide us over until November 5th!
It's been in the works for four and a half seasons and it looks like fans of the other Deschanel sister will get their wish granted later this season as Zooey Deschanel will be making an appearance. Rumors and whispers had been circulating for a while about trying to get the sisters on the show together, but David Boreanaz confirmed to EOnline's Watch with Kristin that it's a done deal. She'll be in the next episode that they're filming and Boreanaz says "I think she's going to play Emily's cousin. It's a whole relationship thing that's going on now with us and it continues to grow and grow and get crazy." Expect the episode to air sometime Decmeber or later.
Source: EOnline SUBMITTED BY: lulamae ADD A COMMENT | Bones is Big in JapanOctober 20, 2009
Between the writer's strike and a lack of inspiring tv, viewers in Japan are flocking to DVD stores to watch American television. Japanese television fans especially love the dramas including 24 and Bones. One reason for the big following... Japanese audiences love how the characters in our television dramas have interesting, different careers you don't normally see on tv in Japan. Most television shows in Japan feature ordinary workers or college students. Even worse, Japanese audiences have complained about the poor quality and vulgar programming whereas the budget for American shows are bigger and the shows more elaborate.
But wait, didn't we see a host of Japanese game shows flock to our televisions this past summer? Perhaps we're having tv cultural exchange going on, but who's getting the bigger benefit?
And, don't you wonder what might get lost in translation?
SUBMITTED BY: SillyLins ADD A COMMENT | Twitter Causes a Ripple for BonesOctober 19, 2009
As many of you have probably heard (and we posted on this site,) David Boreanaz allegedly had the swine flu earlier this month, causing the production of Bones to shut down. Or did he? According to a credible source, Bones creator and executive producer, Hart Hanson, the show had shut down production. "Damn swine flu!" he said.
However, he was only being sarcastic, something that doesn't translate well within 140 characters.
One hour after he tweeted, Hart wrote: "Oops! There is no indication that Boreanaz has swine flu. We expect him back tomorrow. I'm now going out to get swine flu myself in atonement."
However, the pig was out of the proverbial bag and major news outlets were reporting that Boreanaz indeed had the H1N1 virus.
L.A. Time journalist, Scott Collins used this as an example about how the entertainment industry is still trying to find their way in the Twitter world. Not only is the Twitter-reading world watching for updates on their favorite shows, but sometimes they luck out with exclusives doled out by employees. Keeping a handle on PR can be a marketer's nightmare when writers, actors and anyone involved with production of a show or movie can broadcast a tweet within moments. For example, when NBC canceled Southland, writer-producer Kurt Sutter blasted that network president Jeff Zucker was a "rudderless buffoon." Now, I don't know what that means, especially since buffoons lack rudders, but there you have it. I'm sure the PR department for NBC wouldn't have handled telling the fans of Southland that their show had been canceled by insulting the network president.
On that note, if you would like to follow Tweets about Bones, click here! Apparently Bones fans have found that it is somewhat possible to catch the ear of Hart through Twitter.
