With her artistic talents and intelligence, she develops, maintains, and improves the lab's 3-dimensional graphics and computer simulation system. Angela Montenegro is not her birth name; rather, it came to her in a dream when she was younger, and she changed her name to it on her 18th birthday.
Little is known of her family, although it was revealed that she is the daughter of Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and that she is half-Chinese. In the same episode, it was revealed that her full name is Angela Pearly Gates Montenegro (her middle name a reference to the name of Billy Gibbons' guitar, "Miss Pearly Gates")
In the beginning of season two, Angela and Hodgins begin to flirt with each other, which turns into a date in the episode Girl with the Curl. During the date Angela and Hodgins swing on a swing set, reliving their child hoods. They share a passionate kiss near the end of their date. Later in the episode, Angela avoids Hodgins as much as possible. When Hodgins asks why, he worries it is because Angela was not impressed by the date, but Angela assures him that it was probably the best date she had ever had, so Hodgins is confused why she doesn't want this relationship. She says it is because "it was supposed to fall flat...then we would realize this wasn't meant to be." and if they continued their relationship, their working relationship would fall if things ended badly. No one is really sure when they started to date again, because in Aliens in a Spaceship, when Hodgins and Brennan are buried alive, Hodgins shares that he is "stupid in love with [Angela]", and when he is pulled from the buried car, he an Angela kiss and then go home together. Afterwards, they are most definately together, with open workplace flirting, etc. In the episode Priest in the Churchyard, Hodgins asks Angela to move in with him, but she refuses. Later, They are in the storage room together and hodgins thinks Angela is getting cold feet, but she insists that he would be the only one who could feel them. Several times, Hodgins proposes to Angela, but she turns him down. In the near end of season two, Angela agrees to marry Hodgins in an event that was not meant to be a proposal. They agree to have a marriage in one week, and kiss passionately at the end of the episode. But their marriage ceremony is cut short when the State Department announces that Angela is already married. According to the State department, she was married in a drunken fire-circle ceremony in Fiji, probably in 2003 or so to a man she does not remember. After some urging from Caroline, Hodgins and Angela run away from their wedding, ending the second season. Throughout the third season, Angela and Hodgins try to discover the identity of the mystery husband. Hodgins hires a personal investigator, who asks Angela for a description of her husband, and she is only able to give him "tall, muscular, and black." Mr. Doile (their personal investigator) later informs them that it is quite possible Angela's husband is a sailor named Beirambau, (meaning little flute in brazillian) Beirambau being his nickname. Willing to try anything, Angela tries out hypnosis to open her subconcious so she can remember Beirambau's real name. While hypnotized, insted of coming across her husband's name, she opens a red door to a giant wasp. Too afriad to go back to the hypnotist, Angela and Hodgins try to decipher the meaning of the wasp on their own. Soon after that, Angela remembers a breif flash from the wedding. Someone snapped a picture right after she said "I do" and she stuck it in a book as a book mark. Turns out, that the book she was reading was about nuclear waste turning wasps into humungous wasps. Inside, she finds the polaroid of her and Beirambau, but his face is still obscured by shadows. On the opposite side, "Angie + Grayson" is written. After discovering her husband's first name the rest "just flows out" and she remembers his full name is Grayson Barasa. After discovering his name, their new personal investigator, Amber Kipler, findfinds Grayson quickly. He is living in Florida, in the Keys. On No-Name Key, he built Angela a house which Hodgins compares to a shanty and Ms. Kipler calls it a 'whimsical cottage'. From the steps of the cottage you can see the lights of Havana, according to Ms. Kipler. She also tells them that Grayson claimed he is still deeply in love with Angela and refused to sign the divorce. In the seson four premeire, Grayson goes to DC to try and get Angela to come back with him. Angela kisses him, and when Hodgins finds out, he and Grayson exchange blows. When Grayson sees Angela and Hodgins kissing, and bells start to ring, he agrees to sign the divorce and then leaves. Then Cam offers to drive Grayson to the airport; his flight is delayed, and Cam ends up sleeping with him. At first, she feels uncomfortable about telling Angela about it, but after some urging from Sweets, she eventually spills the beans. At first Angela doesn't seem bothered, but then begins to snap and get angry, which is all directed at Cam. When they finally make up, Angela and Hodgins are at the diner. Angela seems confused how she could have been angry at Cam for sleeping with Grayson when they are not even married any more. More probing into that reveals that Angela still has feelings for Grayson, which makes Hodgins not trust her. Angela says that two people who don't traust each other shouldn't be together, let alone get married, and they break up on the spot. After the breakup, Angela and Hodgins try to avoid each other as much as possible. Later in season four, they make up and are back to being lab buddies with zero awkwardness. Soon after that, Angela reconnects with Roxie, her lesbian ex-girlfriend from art school. The two rekindle their relationship and date for awhile, but then they break up and Angela does not take the breakup well. After talking to Sweets, Angela agrees to go on abstinence, not having sex with anyone. With all her pent-up sexual energy, Angela eventually jumps into bed with Hodgins, but they are both quite clear they aren't back in a relationship. But in the episode Critic in the Cabernet, Hodgins clearly states he wants to get back together with Angela, but since the next episode is all a dream, it is unclear whether or not they will get back together or not for season five.
Angela is a bisexual, meaning she will date both men and women. In Season 4 it is revealed that about eight years prior she was in a long-term relationship with a woman named Roxie (previously described in Season 3 as someone "whose heart [Angela] broke in second year art school") who happens to be this episode's main suspect. Angela and Roxie share a passionate kiss at the end after it is proven that Roxie was innocent. The two resume their relationship for a while, but Roxie breaks up with her – explaining that she wants someone who thinks of the future instead of always living in the moment. | | Bones Character Connections | | | | Name: Seeley Booth | Occupation: FBI Agent
