I enjoy Bones, but am amazed that these csi shows can't afford better technical expertise. Either they can't afford it or just think we are ignorant and will believe anything or that being technically correct is secondary to the drama. Yes, they are in love, but can't identify a Ruger Mark III (although millions of American shooters could easily tell that external hamer and flat square frame is not anything like the Ruger with its round bolt, much larger grip, and non-cast construction).

This episode is all about Booth and who he was in high school. There is a little about Bones teen days also. Bones is evaluating Booth; he was most likely the easy going jock who always got his way in high school, someone Bones would not have liked due to his insensitivity. When Booth laughs at an embarrassing story Bones tells him about one of her teen loves she is incensed. Booth spends the rest of the episode trying to get back into her good graces by telling her embarrassing stories about himself, although he really doesn't have any. Bones is trying to decide if he has changed from this person she would not have liked, or rather would not have liked her then. At the end of the episode Booth manages to redeem himself in a conversation in the dinner.

America is a young nation made up of immigrants. How can one look from an anthropologist determine American nationality? It takes centuries apon centuries for evolution in the bone structure to occur, a distinction can be made between some races but between a Nowegian white man and Ameriacn white man, I'm not buying it.

Bones is a head case in this episode. She is trying to get over the imagery of her standing at the alter with Booth, by ignoring him and refusing to do field work. Booth thinks it may be because he arrested her father for murder. Angela tries to explain to Bones what her issue is, but she just doesn't get it. In the end she ends up telling Booth the "center will hold" and accidentally kisses Booths hand which he then proceeds to make fun of her for, nice job Booth. On the one hand we have a woman who refuses to allow herself to fall in love, and when she stops to think about it, like standing at the alter with Booth, she runs for the hills. Booth on the other hand either knows she will run if he tells her he likes her or is too much of a coward to tell her. Either way we would need some cataclysmic event to get these two together.

Dr. Wyatt is used in this episode to help Booth and Bones speak their feelings for one another, not that either of them believed them. In the end Booth admits he "does not know where he stands" with Bones, and Bones admits she wants to become one with Booth. Dr. Wyatt has to give them the straw they both can grasp onto by telling them that Bones just can't live a life without purpose at this time. As Angela said Dr. Wyatt's job was to get the two of them back into the field not discuss their true feelings.
There is also some very funny lines on Bones' understanding of religion. Most of them with the aim of pissing off Booth which she does very well. I almost feel sorry for Booth he is just no match for her most of the time when they are sparring, it's kind of like watching a car wreck. |

In this episode Temperance is tested as to whether or not she wants to continue her life the way it is with Booth or run off and be happy with Sully. In the end she chooses Seeley, or rather the possibility of Seeley. Booth for his part is a perfectly annoying pain in the neck to Temperance throughout most of the episode. Is he afraid of loosing his crime fighting partner or his potential wife? We never really find out. Although he is pretty choked up when Temperance asks him is she should run off with Sully. He has to say yes, it is a good offer and he is unwilling to counter it with anything better. Temperance on the other hand displays some disappointment when she hears the answer from Seeley. This is what makes this show so interesting you just want to knock both of them in the head and say let's get real for just a moment here. You like her; she likes you what is the problem? Probably they are both control freaks and neither one will let the other have the upper hand.

This episode explores Temperance's issues surrounding romance and her ability to stay connected to men. Booth is somewhat jealous of Sully who, having more guts than Booth actually starts dating Temperance. He never answers the question of whether or not his is interested in Temperance romantically when Sully asks, and we see him at the end of the episode watching them kiss through the glass, does he feel he missed his chance? It could be he know Temperance pretty well and is afraid it was just be too hard to be her boyfriend.
Sully on the other hand jumps right in with both feet and Temperance starts feeling claustrophobic and takes his head off a time or two. Booth and Sully both know this is her typical reaction when she falls in love, she wants to push the person away and go back into her shell alone and safe from the world. The writers try to show us that Temperance has the ability to learn to change this response at the end of the episode, but I am not sure it is realistic to expect that she can. Temperance from a young age has learned that she can only count on herself, now she has to unlearn that while risk getting it confirmed at the same time. She is not the type of person that will be looking for the positive side of a relationship; she will always be looking for the ending or the betrayal. I think that is her nature and feel it is doubtful she would be able to be in a long term relationship successfully because of it. |

In this episode we see a plot device used to separate Bones & Booth so the romantic tension can be preserved between the two of them. At the end of the show Booth states that two people work in high risk situation together can't be involved romantically. So we know how Booth feels about the situation currently. It is a little less clear how Bones feels about that statement, was she secretly hoping Booth would come her way after the break up with Cam? I don't think she is really capable of pursuing Booth, although other men she has no problem pursuing. It almost seemed to me that there was a hint of resignation in her voice when she said "Yes I understand".

This is the second guy we have seen Bones kiss. In the opening of the episode we see her looking at Booth and Cam holding hands, she is not really jealous, but looks more like she would also like to try that. In her conversations with Booth I get the idea that she is at the point where she wants to find someone for herself this episode. Something more that someone to satisfy her biological urges. So she ventures forth which more than likely too a lot of courage and she finds a guy that cuts off his brothers head with an axe.
It appears she has no luck with men, but her choices are not well informed ones. She senses subconsciously which guys would not so much treat her the worst, but humiliate her and that is the one she falls for. Then she beats the crap out of herself for not knowing who he was. This will more likely be a pattern with her. She is too afraid to risk pursue an eligible male like Booth, so she picks ones that are sure to fail so she can fool herself that she is in a healthy relationship. Similar to why women pursue married men.

In this episode Bones is chasing Booth sort of. She wants him around more but doesn't want to tell him that she is afraid to ceed control of a relationship especially a romantic one where the costs of failure are much higher. But in the end she decides to trust Booth by giving him her parents file to work on. This is the other big theme for the episode what happend to Temperance's partents. At the end of the episode Temperance lingers in the doorway while Seeley looks at her teen picture. What expression is she looking for? Does she realize that she is attracted to Seeley, or is she just hopping to have a buddy and a surrogate romatic relationship?

In light of Bones' comment to Parker at the end of the episode where she told him it would be inappropriate for her to date his Dad becasue she worked with him. It seems to me that she is running away from Booth again not trying to get closer to him. I mean really, she can't believe that is a valid reason for not dating, every body on this show is dating everybody else. Was this just a knee jerk reaction to Parker's comment with Booth present or can she really not imagine a romantic relationship with Booth?

This is the first episode that Seeley really has to face his feeling for Temperance. Up until now he was either just in the hunt for the girl, or she was annoying him. In this episode he has to rally the squints even when all hope is gone. Booth has faith the squints don't, Temperance is also intrigued by Booth religious faith. She wants to go to church with him, but Booth says no. He doesn't want her disrespecting his religion. But what Temperance is really after is information, she is all about fear, fear from the world, people etc. Seeley faces fear and deals with it;, part of this ability comes from his religious convictions. Temperance wants to study this part of Seeley and see if she can learn the secret.

Temperance and Seeley tend to have their hands all over each other during this episode. Temperance also enjoys playing the dutiful girlfriend to Booth, cheering him on and tending his bruises. The scene where she is getting dressed for her part as Roxie is a classic. She comes out in the dress she picked out looking like a nun, Booth tells her to go back and try again with the dress he picked out for her. When she comes back out she is quite stunning and Seeley is speachless, not that Temperance handles it as well as Angela would have. The scene at the end where she tells him she bet on him becasue of beginer's luck and she didn't want him to loose was also another touching scene.

Bones is a little peaved at Booth for having an affair in the workplace, not that she hasn't done it herself. She just wants Booth all to herself, and Booth wants to continue that illusion so their relationship will stay the same. Remember he needs her to help him solve crimes and look good to his FBI buddies. At the end of the episode Booth realizes his fooling around is causing some problems for Temperance and he chooses to stay with her instead of go off with Cam for a night of passion. He still thinks Temperance is a geek, although a pretty one and he wants to stay on good terms with her.

In this episode we continue the theme of Booth sleeping around. The only problem for Bones is that it is with her office rival Cam, and Cam is engaging in some feminine claiming behaviors to mark Booth as hers in front of the other squints. Such as always addressing him as Seeley, and touching the back of his neck. Booth knows what she is doing and immediately asks Bones out for pie which we see her eating, but in season 3 we find out that she supposedly doesn't like her fruit cooked. Bones is the last one to know what is going on between Booth and Cam, kind of like he is cheating on her. I think Booth wants to keep it quiet becasue he still wants Bones' crime solving abilities and doesn't want their relationship to change. He is attracted to Bones, but he is already making a big enough mess in the lab with his dalliances. Besides he figures while he is waiting for Bones to get a clue about her attraction to him he might as well get laid.
